Mothership Marine at Electrika 2025
Mothership Marine is an award winning company established in 2013. We only build solar electric boats.
Last year Mothership Marine won the Inland Waterways and TowpathTalks ‘Sustainable Boating Award’ specifically for the promotion of more efficient propulsion systems using high torque motors and larger propellers and for fitting large PV cell arrays.
The Judges were also impressed by our use of recycled materials in our fit-outs. In fact we pride ourselves on our fit-outs and feel every narrowboat should have the charm of a country cottage.
Each boat we build is bespoke and we take great care and pay special attention to every detail to give our customers a boat that will give them pleasure for many years to come.
This year we will be exhibiting ‘Sunbeam’. A 61′ narrowboat with a large teak clad cruiser stern and tug bow.
The characteristics of electric motors and diesel motors are very different. Likewise, different types of electric motors have different strengths. And weaknesses.
In narrowboating, efficiency matters and for greatest efficiency it pays to find the optimum propeller for your boat. Then find the motor to drive it.
Törkmar specialises in producing high-torque Permanent Magnet AC (PMAC) electric motors for boats on inland waterways. These motors excel at driving large propellers slowly, ensuring optimal performance with reduced energy consumption.
Efficiency is also important during installation. We have worked hard with builders to make installation as easy as possible and want to make installing a motor in what is often a cold and uncomfortable environment as straightforward as possible.
Electric narrowboats can only store a limited amount of energy. At Electrika, let’s talk about how you get the most out of your boat’s propulsion system and battery bank.
